About the Position
Lethbridge College requires an individual to assist with research trials and general plant and fish care within the Aquaculture facilities and Centre for Sustainable Food Production greenhouse.
Position Details
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • feeding, grading and moving fish
  • cleaning and maintaining tanks and filters
  • making routine water chemistry measurements
  • plant pruning, harvesting, planting, seeding, pest management using biological control
  • monitoring plants for specific diseases and nutrient deficiencies, and recording data and graphing results in a variety of research trials
  • Also required, will be participation in ongoing field research projects, which may involve fish, aquatic ecosystem health, water quality, aquaculture, and aquaponics.

Required Qualifications
  • Successfully completed at least two years of a program in environmental sciences, agriculture, or related program
  • Excellent time management, problem solving, organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone and in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to take initiative to maintain facility
  • Some training and/or experience in working with fish and/or around water would be an asset, especially in the areas of netting, handling and water quality
  • Proficient in academic writing, data collection, and record keeping in a research environment would also be an asset
  • Experience in working with plants
  • Attention to detail required
Preferred Qualifications
Salary AUPE Class Level 1 Step 1 $16.01 per hour
