About the Position
The Centre for Trades is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual with excellent communication skills to instruct in our Apprenticeship Carpentry Program, 1st and 2nd periods, in a capacity of a .75 workload. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in ongoing curriculum development, instruction, and evaluation of student progress. Content follows Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Apprenticeship Course Outlines which can be researched at: www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca.
Position Details
• Develop lesson plans, and course materials
• Select, develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies
• Plan and prepare the physical or virtual learning environment
• Deliver classes
• Promote an effective and efficient learning environment
• Assess student performance in a valid and reliable manner
• Maintain and/or submit program/student records accurately and promptly
• Discuss with students career and employment objectives, in so far as such matters generally relate to the instruction being offered those students
• Be available to students to support learning through office hours, online, or as scheduled by the instructor in consultation with the student
• Attend and participate in meetings related to their employment with the college
• Participate in activities that enhance instructors overall effectiveness
• Promote The trade and the college to prospective students

Required Qualifications
• Journeyman certification in the Carpenter Trade with a minimum of 5 years in the trade, Red seal certification an asset
• Strong, diverse skills and experience
• Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software plus an aptitude to learn new software applications and systems
• Self-motivated and ability to work positively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with residential construction an asset
• Hand skills, tool maintenance and use and benefit
• Previous formal and/or informal teaching experience is considered an asset
Salary Commensurate with education and experience according to the current Faculty Collective Agreement.
